SpecCheck

Privacy

Last updated: 2026-05-31

SpecCheck audits a website you give it. This page explains what we collect when you do that, and what we don’t. It is written in plain language on purpose.

What we collect

When you run a scan, we receive the URL you submit. We use it to fetch the site and run the checks. We also keep basic, aggregate analytics (such as how many scans run and which pages get visited) to understand usage and keep the service up — see Cookies and analytics below for the provider and the cookies involved.

We do not have accounts, and we do not ask for or store personal information about you. We don’t use third-party advertising trackers.

How a scan works

Scans run server-side. Our server fetches the target URL and a handful of related paths (robots.txt, sitemaps, llms.txt, DNS records, and similar), roughly a few dozen requests per scan, from our own IP address. SpecCheck reads what a site publishes; it does not log in, submit forms, or change anything on the site being scanned.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to measure traffic — things like page views and which features get used. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser, and the data is processed by Google as a third-party provider, which can include processing outside your country. We use it for aggregate measurement only, not advertising, and we don’t sell it.

To opt out, block cookies for this site, use a content blocker, or install Google’s opt-out browser add-on.

What we don’t do

We don’t sell your data, and we don’t share submitted URLs with third parties for marketing. Scan results aren’t published or listed anywhere by us. A result link of the form /audit?url=… is shareable only if you choose to share it.

Retention

Scans are stateless: we don’t store a database of scan results. Submitted URLs may appear in short-lived server and analytics logs, which roll over on a normal schedule. If we add saved or shareable audits later, we’ll update this page first.
